Microbiology - Introduction and scope

Introduction : - 
                      Microbiology term was introduced by French chemist Louis Pasteur. The word microbiology constituted by micobe-biology . Microbes are the organisms too small . The term microbe is now replaced by the term micro-organisms. Biology is the science that deals with the study of animal and plant life.
            Microscopic forms of life are present in vast  numbers everywhere on earth in nearly every environment i.e. soil, water, food, air etc .  The majority of these  micro-organisms are not harmful to humans.
 
Microbiology : -  
                      Microbiology is the science which deals with the study of microorganisms.
Branches of Microbiology :-
  • Medical Microbiology 
  • Industrial Microbiology
  • Food Microbiology 
  • Soil Microbiology 
  • Plant Microbiology      
Medical Microbiology :-
                                          Medical Microbiology is the study of causative agents of infectious disease of human beings and their reactions to such infections.

Branch of Medical Microbiology :-
    
Bacteriology :-
                       It deals with the study of bacteria .

Mycology :-
                    It deals with the study of  fungi.

Virology :-
                  It deals with the study of viruses.

Immunology :-
                        It is concerned with mechanism of immunity.

Genetics :-
                    It deals with the study of  heredity and variations.

Scope of Microbiolgy :-

  1. Diagnosis of disease 
  2. Prognosis of disease
  3. Treatment of disease
  4. Source of infection 
  5. Prevention of disease 
  6. Promotion of health and recovery 
  7. Research .
