Renal Function Test

Structure and function of kidney :-

The kidneys are Bean shaped organ an outer region called cortex and inner  region called  medulla. Structure and functional unit of kidney is called nephron. Each kidney contain approximately 1 million nephrons.

  Functions :-

There are some  basic process :-

  • Glomerular Filtration
  • Tubular secretion
  • Excretion of water and waste product of protein metabolism.
  • Excretion of harmful substance drugs and toxins .
  • Regulate of PH of  blood .

Position of the kidneys :-

The kidneys extend from the level of last thoracic vertebra to the third lumbar vertebra. The right kidney is smaller than the left kidney . Each kidney  measure 11cm in lenght 5cm in width and 3cm in thickness. Each kidney weight about 150 grams.

Nephron :-

Microscopically the kidney are made of a number of structrual and functional units called nephorns .There are about ten million nephrons in each kidney .

Kidney Function Test

  •  Urea
  • Creatinine
  •  Uric Acid
  •  Urinanalysis
  •  Creatinine Clearence and
  • Glomerular Filtration Rate
  • Sodium
  • Potassium

NPN are waste products formed in the body as a result of degradtive metabolism of nuclic acid ,amino acids, proteins .Excretion of these compounds is an important function of kidney.
