GENERAL SAFETY IN MEASUREMENT
1. Documentation of laboratory safety policies and procedures.
2. All laboratory personnel should be aware about the laboratory safety policies and procedures and follow these at all times.
3. List of hazardous materials used in the laboratory should be prepared. All hazardous materials should be accounted for on a continuous basis.
4. Laboratory personnel should follow safe hygienic practices which include hand washing , wearing protective clothing, gloves, eye protection etc.
5. Eye wash facility should be available as " stand - alone " facility or attached to sink. Portable refillable bottles should also be available.
6. Bio-hazards symbol should be used on all container and equipment containing biohazardous material.
7. Laboratories should ensure proper preservation and security of specimens.
8. Destruction of hazardous materials should be authorized and handled according to standard procedures.
9. Laboratory personnel should be thoroughly trained in managing fire, and non fire emergencies such as large gas leakage.
10. Adequate fire extinguishers should be readily available in the laboratory.
11.Periodic checking of all safety equipment and accessory should be ensured.
SAFETY IN LABORATORY
1. Personnel working in laboratories may be exposed to risks from various chemicals, infectious materials, fire hazards, gas leak etc.
2. The environment is also at risk of being contaminated by hazardous materials used and waste generated in the laboratory.
3. Safety in laboratories therefore include protection of both the staff and environmental from hazardous materials.
